WHO WOULD DO SUCH A THING? OH THE HUMANITY!
WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE INTERNET. So much anger is probably better relegated to the text of this post yet instead I just made the longest tag in existence I think.

I was catching up on Conan this weekend and watched the bit where he visits the Madame Tussaud’s wax museum. This is the best remote I’ve seen them do so far.
I could watch an hour each night of Conan interacting with South Korean tourists. Really great.

How did I only just read about a documentary on Toynbee tiles at Sundance? Ugh, want to see, want to see, want to see.

My brother just got into flight school!
You know it’s a big fucking deal because I got to hug him and I told him to wake up my parents and now I’m grinning. My brother got into flight school! Or I guess aeronautical university, but whatever.

You know how in Skins 3 you meet Freddie when he’s skateboarding down the hill in a hat trying to be cool and you just immediately realize you are going to hate this douche bag for the next two seasons?
In Skins 5 you get to see Franky go on a crash-course through Bristol on a hijacked elderly person’s scooter and the feeling it evokes is pure joy, and it so great to know the next two...

Skins 5 starts in under an hour.
I’ll be watching later tonight. Based on the last two generations, I have a pretty good idea of how it’ll go:
There’ll be a break-out female character most of the fandom comes to cares about relatively quickly (Cassie, Emily). She’ll have some sort of Issue With a Capital I (eating disorder, confusion about sexual identity). She’ll be interested in a character who...

The dream pants
My hapless younger brother cannot shop for himself, but has (for years) clung to what he considers the perfect pair of pants. I’m sure they came from a thrift store, or maybe from my mom’s friend’s equally gangly husband, who has been the source of some great hand-me-downs.
Last night, he threw me the pants and I roamed the internet. They are now stained, holes worn throughout,...

OMG I just remembered my amazing dream from last night. Robert Sheehan became a film teacher at my sister’s high school and she was in his class. She told me about him and I decided to go over there and ask him out, but when I got there it turned out he was already dating another teacher. I went over to her classroom to figure out her weaknesses. She was a beautiful...

– Patti Smith (via vruz)
If you need a pick-me-up today, just sit and think for a few seconds about Patti Smith listening to PJ Harvey.
(via hman)
It’s pretty cool to know Patti Smith and I have been making similar uses of our time.

– “My Rayannes” by Emma Straub on the Paris Review website. Her book Other People We Married is coming out very soon - I had the chance to read an ARC of it and I loved it so much. Terrifically funny, with goofy laughter and sadness that was truly, truly reminiscent of Lorrie Moore. (via...

tl;dr skins usa
Look, here is the problem with the new Skins: there is so much bad acting, all the time. The opening scenes of the Tea episode were the strongest so far, largely because there was so little dialogue. Tea flirts with a girl in class, Tea comes home and ignores her mother, Tea kisses her father good-bye before sneaking off to fun lesbian dance club, Tea dances with the girl from class, Tea brings...

Good parenting
spacejam:
When I was eight, I really wanted to see Spice World*. I wrote it down on the chalkboard in my house on a “to-do” list (there was nothing else on it), and told my Dad several times that we HAD TO SEE IT. He said he’d take me. But we never went.
Instead, I just waited five months and rented it with a Blockbuster coupon.
It’s cool when parents realize your mistakes before you do.

Only a little awkward
Standing in line to be seated at Shady Maple and reading signs that ask all dress be modest and appropriate, then looking down at your purple leopard-print sweetheart neckline shirt and black glitter cardigan. Yes, I am the definition of modest.

A thing on Keith Olbermann
I have seen Countdown more times that I can remember. I watched the show hang on the verge of cancellation for months and months, then find an audience. I watched Keith go from being a man I admire to one of the preeminent examples of cable news arrogance. I have seen thousands of scheduling changes, I have watched the channel going from something I once described to a friend in high school as...
